Stout, short-tailed salamander ranging from 4-6.75 inches in length. Dorsum is purple, brown or salmon red with many blueish-black markings that sometimes form a “herringbone” pattern. Venter is spotted and much lighter than dorsum. Iris is yellow. Very little information is known about reproduction and life history characteristics as a whole. Species occurs in West Feliciana and Washington Parish in wet areas and margins of small stream in bottomland hardwood forests and longleaf pine hills.
