Fairly robust salamander ranging from 3.5-4 inches in length with a brownish-salmon colored dorsum flecked with small black dots. Venter is salmon colored and unspotted. Short snout and short tail. Iris is brown. Larvae are more commonly found in the wild than adults. Sphagnum moss often associated with habitat. Little is known about the reproductive habits of this species. Species is found in St. Tammany and Washington Parish in the longleaf pine hills in swamps, seepages and areas around slow-moving streams.
