Terrestrial, small salamander reaching 4 inches in maximum length. Wide, undulating, red to orange mid-dorsal stripe. Sides are dark gray and venter is mottled with dark and light colors. Very little is known about the habitat and reproduction of this species in Louisiana. Specimens found in Louisiana were collected under stones sitting on slopes. In other parts of the species’ range it mates in the fall and lays eggs in early summer. Species occurs in two disjunct populations in west-central Louisiana in the Kisatchie National Forest.
