Large, tan or light brown, neotenic salamander reaching 11 inches in length. Four toes on each hind foot. Mid-dorsal region is darker than other areas on dorsum. Prominent dorsolateral stripe running down each side and many dark spots irregularly arranged in rows on the dorsum. Ventral surface is unmarked. Very little is known about reproduction. Inhabits streams and other areas where submerged burrows and other cover objects occur. Species occurs in northern Louisiana in the Red River drainage system.
