Small, slender salamander that seldom reaches more than 3 inches in length. Terrestrial adult has four toes on each foot. Yellow brown to brown dorsum with a dark stripe running down each side. Some individuals have many black spots on dorsum. Venter and underside of tail are yellow. Sperm is produced in August and sperm transfer occurs in September. Cirri are present in males in September. Species is abundant in western Louisiana. Inhabits stream bottomlands, damp hardwood and pine forests, seeps, margins of ponds, and swampy areas. Species occurs Statewide except coastal marshes and north Mississippi River floodplain.
