Cajun chorus frog (Pseudacris fouquettei)

Ground-dwelling, small frog reaching a maximum length of 1.38 inches. Dorsum coloration and pattern are variable: dorsum ranges from gray to brown and generally has three dark, longitudinal stripes or streaks. Light stripe visible on upper lip. A dark stripe runs from the lip through the eye and down to the groin. Groin is yellow. Breeds in the winter in shallow pools of water where there is sufficient vegetation. Females lay 500 to 1,500 eggs in gelatinous clusters which contain 7 to 176 eggs each. Clusters of eggs are attached to vegetation in water. Voice is similar to the noise made when running a finger across a stiff comb. Species occurs in a variety of habitats from forests to agriculture fields throughout the State, but is most abundant in forested areas.
