Spring peeper (Pseudacris crucifer)

Small treefrog reaching a maximum length of 1.38 inches. Brown to olive-brown in coloration with a dark mark between the eyes. Dorsum has mark resembling an X, which may sometimes be faint or missing. Predates on small arthropods and skins cast by insects. Calls occur from mid-November to mid-May. Call is a single note, high-pitch “peep”—as their name suggests. Females lay 250 to 1000 eggs individually and affix each egg to vegetation in isolated wetland pools. Each egg is encases in a single gelatinous envelope. Species occurs Statewide except for in the coastal marshes.
