Barking treefrog (Hyla gratiosa)

Biggest of the Louisiana treefrogs reaching a maximum length of 2.75 inches. Skin is very granular and green or brown dorsum has many rounded spots with a dark border. Individuals can change to a uniform gray, green, or brown depending on level of activity and climatic conditions. Much less arboreal than other members of the genus Hyla. Call sounds like an infrequent and explosive hollow bark and is heard from mid-March to mid-August. Females lay over 1,000 eggs. Each egg has a gelatinous envelope, and eggs are deposited on the pond bottom. Species occurs only in the Florida Parishes.
